This article analyzes the start of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah's presidential term in 2025, examining how her political biography and experience in the state apparatus influence the continuity of Namibia's foreign policy. It concludes that Nandi-Ndaitwah's tenure has not led to significant changes in foreign policy. In fact, it has reinforced established guidelines, such as economic diplomacy, regional cooperation, and a commitment to a multilateral world order.
The article examines the new president's initial foreign policy steps, including intensifying contacts with SADC partners and supporting states and peoples that share anti-colonial and self-determination values. Particular attention is given to the analysis of relations with South Africa and Russia. In the latter case, Nandi-Ndaitwah's professional experience with bilateral cooperation mechanisms plays a significant role. The resumption of negotiations with Germany regarding the recognition of the genocide of the Herero and Nama peoples is mentioned separately as an example of the new administration's desire to address issues of historical importance to the country.
