On February 17, the National University of Lesotho hosted a lecture by D.A. Zelenova, PhD in Political Science and Head of the BRICS African Strategy Research Center at the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IAS RAS), titled “New Strategic Interaction Between Russia and Africa: Soviet Legacy, Economic and Humanitarian Ties”. The event was organized at the invitation of Professor Carol Nganga Tshi, Director of the Department of International Law at the University of Lesotho, with the support of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in South Africa. The lecture was opened with introductory remarks by the University’s Rector, Professor Olusola Isaac Fajana, who emphasized the importance of maintaining academic ties with Russia.
The lecture was attended by around 100 people, including the University’s leadership, students, and faculty members. Following the lecture, Daria Zelenova answered numerous questions from the audience. The event concluded with the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National University of Lesotho. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining contacts at the academic-community level and outlined a plan of activities for further academic cooperation.
