The G20 summit is being held on African soil for the first time. During its presidency, South Africa is following in the footsteps of its predecessors—Indonesia, Brazil, and India—by advancing the interests of the Global South, drawing in particular on the needs of its home continent.
What opportunities does the Johannesburg meeting open up for countries across the region? How closely does the current G20 agenda align with the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals? And how might the philosophy of Ubuntu influence the summit’s outcomes?
These and other questions were addressed by Daria Zelenova, Head of the BRICS African Strategy Studies Center at the Institute for African Studies (RAS), in an interview with BRICS.
