African Countries in BRICS: New Opportunities for Economic and Political Cooperation — Daria Zelenova, Andrey Ufimtsev, Ekaterina Abramova, Sofia Zamesina

The working paper is devoted to the participation strategies of African states (South Africa, Ethiopia and Egypt) in BRICS. Despite the diversity of national contexts, African countries associate their participation in the association with prospects for strengthening their agency in international affairs and with opportunities for equitable socio-economic development. The working paper identifies the determinants of BRICS’ geographical expansion using the countries of the African continent as examples, and outlines the prospects and challenges within the African dimension of the association’s activities.
